Historical Markers
by Lynn Kozlowski
$16.00
Description
“Historical Markers stands as silent and true as the titular objects: pointing here and there to those overlooked incidents that make us human.” (Whitney Pastorek, editor Pindeldyboz)
Comments:
“Kozlowski is a master of understatement, and he sees the world in a way that Diane Arbus would appreciate… Kozlowski’s presentation of the incidental is always full, always revealing in a way that leaves one wondering how so much may be contained in such a small space.” (Daryl Scroggins, Author of Winter Investments and The Game of Kings)
“…Know that without warning Kozlowski will steal your world and make it his own. He will show you the strangeness in all things familiar.” (David McLendon, Author and co-founder of failbetter.com)
“Historical Markers are just the kind of surprising, mysterious documents you’d find off to one side of a weedy rest stop along the forgotten highway of the American psyche… Take the step and see how Kozlowski’s poetic archaeology makes the journey rather than the destination the point of this ride.” (John Rubins, Editor of Tatlin’s Tower)
Excerpt:
Insectivora
Bugs, bees, black flies, deer flies, punkies, gnats, midges, horse flies, mosquitoes, bedbugs, lice, ticks, no-see-ums fatten on the animals and people. Deer flies prefer the reflective skin of swimmers in the morning. Female mosquitoes are deaf. After a forest fire, the sound of beetles chewing on dying trees carries on light breezes rising out of the fallen woods.
