in this dream
my wife is back in
the hospital but no one
knows her name

she screams
for her sister but
her sister is bones
and when i run up from
the bills and angry letters
on the dining room table
she is awake and
frightened

is asking
why i left her and
outside
the first storm of the year
has begun

has come to bury
the child of a lost friend
who lies dying in a
bed i can only
imagine

i am not a
strong enough man
to make any of this
right
