The axis of the earth not only goes through every small town in America, but through every village, hamlet, city, or megalopolis in the world. It passes through every oasis in every desert where at least one person comes to drink of him or herself. The arrow enters the ear of the sleeper, a whisper that eats its way through to the other side, leaving a gap behind that can always be filled by the self's little earwig. The earth's axis -let's face it - is really a pogo stick. You might care to think of ego and the earth's axis as a team, an earwig on a pogo stick.
