This fall Ravenna will release a second book from Gregory K. Cole, writing from South Carolina into the cosmological world of profound poetry–”Frases To Or”–following along the lines of his earlier title, The Moodier Could of Being, of which poet Nicola Vulpe wrote: Cole’s poetry has something of the Imagists, something of the Japanese masters, and something that is only Cole— a linguistic gymnast cutting sparse and sensual gems.

Cole is not writing in the vernacular of Spanglish or of daily life in border communities: instead it is a rarefied intellect at play here, something perhaps that Borges might have imagined if he had combined his languages rather than keeping them separate. The emphasis on the music of words might suggest Dada, but Cole’s musical words demand that one grope through them, into their depths, to puzzle out their “sense”. Their brevity and strangeness might recall to some readers the poems of M Sarki…
