Francis Raven

Two Representations of Myself as a Plumber

1.

Often we are not imprisoned for crimes we neither committed
nor understand. Often we are called to duty into a vocation that
we neither committed ourselves to nor understand. Call this
Principle of Positive K.

2.

Our vocations are properly spelled out neither to others nor to us.
There are four possibilities: (1) I don't know who I am on the
inside; (2) You don't know who I am on the inside; (3) I don't
know who I am on the outside; (4) You don't know who I am on
the outside. You can see the symmetry of these choices. The Grid
of Misunderstandings is commonly called the Matrix of Vocational
Illusions. It is used quite readily by any number of career
counselors and (less frequently) labor market analysts.
