The Problem of My Left Hand
When I reach for the Mason
jar in the dish rack, I grab
the bottom and flip the glass
into the palm of my right
hand. Now the problem of my
left hand — whether tumor
or necrosis — can only be solved
by reaching for the top rim
and rotating the upside-down
cylinder until it is upright.
Telling the Difference
My cousin Erin once
told me you could tell
right from left by making
an L the with thumb
and forefinger of both hands:
Whichever points in the right
direction is left. Age 34,
I still think of this when I form
the fingers of my right hand
around the invisible pen
and shake it at the ridiculous
invisible paper.
