Elizabeth Yamin

When you don’t attend...

When you don’t attend,
when you keep reading,
or typing,
it’s practice for
my living longer than you.

The day may come
when you will not listen,
or even hear,
you will be so absorbed
in being not.

And if the tables are reversed,
you will concentrate,
and I will rot.
