Pomelo
"…not
as sweet as orange and not as sour as lemon…"
Mature,
it is the pompous lemon,
a pamplemousse
larger
than a grapefruit;
Shaddock's
cargo
with a
broad albedo:
this ripe,
yellow globe.
The Pomme-Grenade
Looking at the pomegranate,
you think of the sun of,
the warmth of, the
heat of
Iran, Armenia and Azerbaijan -
the scorch that comes
from a smoking gun
and how this hot-headed,
hard-nosed fruit
yields so easily
from its laden pulp
edible arils of blood.
