Stuart Barnes

Metaphor

You come unprejudiced,
O great Ra, cobra-headed,
falcon-faced, riding

the papyrus ferry.
Patiently I clasp my
pencil, waiting for

that gasp, resuscitation, knowing
only you can mould this highness
of kites, this darkness of moles.
