Several Circles
(after the Wassily Kandinsky painting)
There are questions never answered
By the endlessness of circles
The symmetry of arcs, gyres within gyres
Coils of doubt beginning at an unknown point
And spiraling toward no certain end--
The disc of the sun seemingly
Forever on fire.

(after Marcel Duchamp's pencil additions
to a postcard reproduction of the Mona Lisa)
La Gioconda
With a mustache and beard
It becomes her (Somehow)
A fetching figure, all smiles
What she was meant to be
Not what her mirror saw
Nor what Da Vinci meant to paint
(Perhaps)
