My late friend Dale's
attempts to indoctrinate our
youth sometimes backfired.
The everlasting image
I have in my head is of Dale
slightly hunched over
talking to his 3-year-old niece:
Hey Emily, ... Hey Emily, ...
Can you say Joe Stalin?
And Emily, with her natural twin airs
of annoyance and condescension
and a toss of her blond curls
replying: No. You say Joe Stalin.
Not Exactly Noncommital
I’m not gonna say that
I would sacrifice my life for you
or anything like that, but I would definitely
take a bullet for you, you know,
like in the fleshy part of my thigh or something.
