George Moore

Anti Ars Poetica

Fields of clover.
Sunsets that bleed.
Trees of any kind.
Children with no
recognizable names.
Flowers as blossoms.
Bees as workers.
Lakes as mirrors.
The sky as an
open thought.
Open thoughts.
Gracefulness in deer.
Butterflies of any color.
Pure water
from an old well.
Tears, the word,
written out.
The heart as other
than a muscle.

Walled Town, Alentejo

Volumetry, the thinking in space
about time, or times when the enemy
might get angry enough to come over
the top. The cube and round dome
were for that, and then there were
the attitudes of the fifteenth century.

Today we marvel as the stones, as if
we'd never seen this matter of the earth.
But cut and fitted to the exact expanse
at human expense, for human defense.
The hill itself a nice spot to view the world
from, then frailty built the first wall.
