Doll parts
If only there could be a plastic sun to shine on her face
she might be able to feel something other than unmade
and incomplete. She no longer feels awkward
with strangers and can throw a look across the room
you believe is meant for you. Her mouth can almost taste
the disapproval that refuses to dissolve
she wants to remember how to sigh without counting
her breaths. She wishes for a Prince to take her shoes,
walk her off to nowhere, tell her you ain't got nothin'
making it sound as if she were everything.
