Odalisque

Plume
Plume.
An
ostrich feather in a hat.
A
curling, ascending,
dissipating
tower of smoke.
A
spreading, slowly thinning
fan
of contamination
from
the innocent power plant.
A
disease vector.
A
comet's tail.
Plume.
Fullness
The pulp of watermelon,
papery and watery at once:
It
is summer.
The
apples, sweet and hard:
Fall,
winter, spring.
The
blackberries in the backyard,
food
for the early birds:
So
many years.
